We went to the Asian temple yesterday and I specifically asked the high monk and a high ranking religious official there the following:

"Is it possible to receive good karma if one gambles in a casino"?

The official answer was, No.  The explanations were both the same.  Gambling is a sin and good karma cannot be awarded to those that commit sins. 

Plain and simple.  Sorry, forget the good karma guys, you can't possess it for the purposes of gambling!

My son had demanded some snacks and a trip to the arcade to go to the Temple, (he is smart like his Dad)!!

Gentlemen, according to the Cathechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), number 2413, gambling in moderation is acceptable. I have heard some arguments in the internet that there is nothing against gambling in the Holy Bible. God bless.


2413 Games of chance (card games, etc.) or wagers are not in themselves contrary to justice. They become morally unacceptable when they deprive someone of what is necessary to provide for his needs and those of others. The passion for gambling risks becoming an enslavement. Unfair wagers and cheating at games constitute grave matter, unless the damage inflicted is so slight that the one who suffers it cannot reasonably consider it significant.

More so and IMO and that of many I play with, it is the events leading up to the casino that generally determine how the player will do due to his thoughts-concentration and positive motivation, etc.

Well the monk surely answer the right way. Gamble is a sin of life and it will never be a good deed. Even if your betting for a charity drive it still a sin.

it's a thought that constantly occupies my mind. Why should gambling be a sin? Because it's a game of chance? Because one takes risks when gambling? Is that not saying the same for those who trade the stock markets? The forex markets? The futures, commodities and indexes markets? In fact for all forms of entrepreneurship?

Investing and gambling to certain extents can be similar.  However, gambling by a person that is wasting his life savings, drinking, womanizing and many of the other addictions and or actions that so many do get involved with while gambling, is family threatening and home wrecking causes.  If not with the drinking, drugs, cheating, etc., there is also the other side of the gambling where the person starts to ignore his job/career/business and spends more and more time and more and more money at gambling and is on that type of downhill.  Possibly that is why gambling is a sin when compared to using gambling as a money maker type of income supplement. 

All IMO of course.

I have sinned. 👿👿. But the same preoccupations can come into play in the other endeavours as well. When a business fails, the implications on the family can also be devastating. Saw a Ghost Whisperer movie where a man committed suicide after his business failed in later life and he could not continue to give his family the life they were accustomed to. And after his death some held him in contempt while some continued to love him. Or one can go be a salaried worker and don't take risks normally associated with entrepreneurship endeavours. If one can approach baccarat gaming as an entrepreneurship. Otherwise one can say baccarat is simply a form of entertainment and enjoy it as an alternative to smoking or drinking or womanising. Some women would rather their men gamble than womanise. To each its own. 🙄🙄

Life's questions. As I push 60 lots of contemplation especially when we feel we have not achieved our full potential given the mistakes we make in life. In any case, we live with the choices we make. God bless.
