  • We're going to upgrade our community's rules before year's end, so it's time to open the discussion on what should be explicitly forbidden to occur in our pages.

If you have a gripe with something ocuring in our pages, this is your outlet/opportunity to impulse positive change regarding it.

ALL suggestions are going to be taken into consideration for shaping our new rules.

    Shoot away!

  • Maybe not to allow posts (topics) to be removed (deleted) by author1 hour or so, after publishing?
And maybe to open section where members can put products for sale or offer services?

Thanks Vic for taking care of this place!

In our new web engine we're solving this with a public history, so messages are actually hidden, not deleted.

The messages are taken out of the post but they can be checked by anyone from history log. I'm trying to set-up a diff page where people can compare thread versions easily.

(P.S. I don't want to give a date of completion because development is currently "powered by my eyecups", i.e. I'm doing it after my work-day is over. Hopefully as we launch our new paid software we get sponsored coding hours during the day to accelerate development 8))

And maybe to open section where members can put products for sale or offer services?

There's a NO SELLING ALLOWED on BetSelection.cc rule planned, close to the header.

Completing our new web engine is paramount for making the next step/iteration happen. Once the new engine is completed, a spin-off site comes to light: BetForum.cc

The gist of it being to have a single (shared) database while giving every member their own sub-forum for them to make whatever they wish of it: <member>.BetForum.cc

This way members can set their own rules for their spaces, choose who can participate, promote products, et cetera. It's truly their personal space.

By separating the sites' concerns, we can have a very focused study website here (a true "Bet Selection" site) while the regular chit-chat and other discussion takes place under member spaces over there. Each one in control of their own "crib".

Thanks Vic for taking care of this place!

Thanks to you for participating :)

    Cheers!

So what is going to happen to those posts of mine that suggest going to my school? I know this is a change from recent activity to a firm policy. I mean there are two threads dedicated to exploring the validity of my school. I made a few suggestions in other people's threads also. I guess that all would need to be removed, I guess. This is the website/forum where I set out to cryptically tell my secrets. That was done all for free. I was getting requests every month in PM's to guide people through my maze of discovery.

I just don't want to get banned because of new government regulations.  :)

Nothing. They'll just be moved to gizmotron.betforum.cc

You won't, nobody is going to be banned retroactively.

Actually, the new spin-off space is all about "letting people be". What we want is to have separation of concerns: one site for very focused gambling study (here) with a matching set of rules to achieve this purpose and a relaxed place over there where each member is given a space to post whatever they wish, with the ability to control who can participate and -in general- make of it what they please.

It's the same database, hence the same shared member-list, login/password, PM inbox and tight integration. The same community with everyone choosing going the way they want.

Think about it in terms of a more-libertarian space.

  • Wow, you are really becoming the programmer. This is very cool, a piggy backed forum. Great idea.

  • We need to have one essential feature here. Sorry it is not about rules though. I want an autosave function. At times we write a long post and while posting the same some error takes away all. I hope it is not tough to implement.

Hello dear Sumit, feature request taken. We have a draft functionality scheduled.

Right now I'm doing the new web engine so I'm inclined not to try to fix the mess we have here but I'm rather focusing the limited time I have available on creating a more-correct clean slate for us.

I know we can have a "good enough" new engine in the next months, but I'm afraid to give a date for it. Once we have a flow of financial support thanks to sales of our new software bundle, I can give notices of advances, but I'd rather err in the side of caution and hold announcements until there's something we can use in production/live.

  • I'm glad to hear that there will be no selling allowed. But I think it's a mistake in what is supposed to be discussion forum for certain members to have their own little empires and the power to delete all posts that they don't agree with. I've never seen this on any other forum and it's weird.

It's one thing if you're trolling and abusing other members, in that case the admin should obviously be able to delete the offending posts, but deleting posts just because you disagree with someone goes against the spirit of what a forum should be about.

Try to look up the word obnoxious. Try to look in the mirror and see yourself in your command post uniform. Try to look up fundamentalism and don't leave out "Math Nazi." You think that we don't hear or can't hear your endless chanting, "Ze plane! Ze plane!" -- Tattoo; Fantasy Island. You represent a very small sect of society that thinks that a savior is needed in the world of poor delusional gamblers and so you are here to DRUM BEAT it into us like a traveling fundamentalist "Turn or Burn" preacher. We have seen your act. It's tired, there's absolutely nothing new, and actually, I doubt that anyone can hear you anyway.
