  • Nice debate. So, what's the verdict?

    Hello dear LF,

    The concrete actions coming from this council thread are shaping to be along these lines:

    - Enable an open/public moderation log where every deletion is documented, so every person can bring any wrong removal to our attention easily.

    - A sort of "staging area" where all deleted posts go, still keeping them in public sight for members.

    The "hide post" idea from Sumit is a good one, we might try it to complement actions by non-moderators.

    Delete, Hide, Expel buttons

    Delete = For insulting posts.

    Hide = For regular non-moderators to have a vote. +1 / -1 style. Readers have a setting to see the full thread with hidden messages open.

    Expel = For off-topic/misplaced messages, so they aren't penalized with complete removal.

  • Self topic moderation is a nice right given to authors here to clean the topic from nasty comments, namecallings and at times insulting and annoying posts. As Ken said, at times, this right annoys others too. The best remedy is to "hide" the posts that he feels are not appropriate. If something is very negative in nature, he can always mention that with "report to moderator". Later if someone complains against hiding his good post without reason, it can be evaluated by the global mod/admin. Permanent deletion of post/topic should be the right of admin only. This safeguard will curb many bad habits of many of the members here and could be used to take action against miscreants too.

  • Is it possible that when a moderator removes a message a copy is returned to the users?

    Perhaps that message was simply out of place or maybe later you realize you have a paragraph that is worth publishing in a new thread. Well, that is my suggestion.

    I've been thinking of a "staging area" where people can draft their posts, make tracked changes, then -when ready- publish them.

    This area would also receive removed posts, in order to give the user a second chance to continue editing the and re-publishing it, most likely under a different section/topic.

    Are the ones above the entirety of your suggestions?

    When we receive funding from our software/subscription/donations this month, some of it gets to pay the hours to begin implementing these :thumbsup:
