I play roulette around 20 years ago.
Then we did not have international casino, we had restaurants and pub's with roulette.

You could only play with 0.2 or 0.5 chips as maximum.
So if you had to use some kind of progression you had to take advantage of the layout and cover more bets.

My first method was playing against one dozen to show six times in a row.
So if dozen 1 hit and could place 2 and 3 up to five times using the layout.

I once won all chips the dealer had at the table, then later on i lose it all back.

Cheers

Great Story mate. Over here we've had full-blown casino tables forever, so I guess I can only report "normal". I've actually seen some of the then-new tables turn up into other casinos as old and worn-out ones, but no biased anything, just old.

Dang! That's a very short "long term".

I had very exciting and memorable experience of playing roulette first time in a real casino. Before that I was playing and studying roulette online only. When I got enough confidence, I asked a few friends of mine to accompany me for a casino trip.
We had a common bankroll and responsibility to earn was on my shoulders. When I entered a casino and sat there to play with real chips ( I bought 200 chips,to start with)I was literally blank as to what to do now. I was the alone player and croupier won't spin ball unless I put my bets. I reluctantly put 5 chips on 5 inside numbers, it lost. Second trial, same thing. In my third attempt, it was a win. I was pretty excited to see croupier pushing my winnings towards me. It was all luck as I randomly selected a neighbour to bet and it struck in third attempt. I played like that for half an hour and I had a nice winning streak and doubled my starting bankroll with bigger value cash chips as well. The guys accompanying me started thinking it as easy money and started betting dozens etc with bigger chips and started losing whatever I won. I got irritated by seeing this and frowned upon them to either let me play for all or play yourself with your own money.

First time...decades ago...just threw chips all over the felt on "lucky" numbers and some outside bets in a real casino.  Don't even remember if I won or lost.

Whatever the outcome...it got me thinking...which turned out to be a dangerous thing. >:D   Must be the inner obsessive compulsive in me took over from there

The first time I played.  It was live, B&M.  Vegas.

Don't remember my play.  Remember this guy playing $100 chips on R or B.  Each time he would ask his wife/woman/date what it would be.  She did not want to pick.  He made her.  They lost and when they did, he derided her like she was dirt.  After losing what must have been $1,000 or more, they left.  She was in tears.

I asked the dealer what the heck?  He told me I hadn't seen anything.

Don't remember placing a bet.

Without any basic in  roulette i started with the *magic* Martingale on red/black  and won (with luck ofcourse)
230 euros.  Next day again was a veeeery lucky day , started to win more on red/black with the Marty , then i
started my attack on one dozen and after up and downs and using  higher bets  my bankroll finished at 1200 euros ! Wow  i was so happy and sure that s the way ...Guess what next day ?  You all know ....all 1200.......i will tell you this in spanish way ....................

Do toys roulette count ?

The first time I played roulette was in my parents garage. My brother (R.I.P., till we meet again) had brought a toy roulette. We and a few friends were there.

Real money, though. His girlfriend´s sister was spinning the wheel.

I had it figured out. I was going for 2 columns, about 66%, it was a sure fire win. I placed some 2,5 euros in each column...

Wheel was spun. Lost.

Placed the same bet.

Lost again.

Stopped.

Started thinking.... was hooked. The end   :))

Searched the net, found the forums... opened up an account at Global Player Casino with 100 euros, which I blew playing the computer RNG (I didn´t know any better).

Real casino came later, first the terminals at 0,20 euros a chip ... Got an idea from Turbogenius, dividing the carpet in 9 sets of numbers (forgetting the zero).

3,6,9,12 - 15,18,21,24 - 27,30,33,36
2,5,8,11 - 14,17,20,23 - 26,29,32,35
1,4,7,10 - 13,16,19,22 - 25,28,31,34

tracking the furthest back set of 4 and betting on it.

Won the second spin. Lucky, yes, but I was damn happy with it, so I cashed out and hung around the terminals for a while, then left.

The real tables were last since they were more expensive (5 euros min.)... Made a few "suckers bets" (outside) ... won a few, lost a bunch, I am down at the moment, but I feel the tide may be turning.

Never made a straight up bet at a real table, how sad is that ?  ::)

Forgot to say........that guy in the funny cowboy outfit kept washing his chips in his mouth and drying them on his lady's top....

Among the first TIMES I think I pissed live dealers by betting on 5 double-streets for plenty of consecutive spins.

I didn't bet straight-up numbers until quite a lap past my first dabbling with roulette.
