The Principle of Steps

  • This principle follows the study of momentum which is an aspect of cyclic behaviour, and adapting our knowledge and application to right timing and thus greater effectiveness and efficiency in winning more, and losing less.

The principle of steps breaks activity, or cycles, or goals, or big goals, into a series of steps - like quantum packets - to learn to observe, read, pause, assess and stop at times of sufficient progress. Such a one is all time high (ATH). It is great to stop on a summit as part of a journey on a bigger mountain ( metaphor). It is also good to stop and pause to reflect at a stop loss limit before further damage is done, in order to re-calibrate and balance our sensitive and slippery emotions.

I will give some examples of this to follow.

  • It is fascinating the way our minds flow and key principles and matters of importance or concern come to as visiting themes for us to work upon. It is the same principle as that to which you give attention will be more abundant in your life. It is a natural Life Principle, and that is why, sooner or later we have to make better choices, and we reap the harvests of that in which we have invested for good or ill.

There is no facile elementary metaphysics in this. No judgement as to what is right or wrong. - no condemnation. It just is that way, and that is all about our creative abilities. Sooner or later we will realize just how clever we can be and should be, rather than sleep walking through life. Refer to the recent National Geographic series 'Genius' by Stephen Hawking. What he demonstrates is how we can all 'think' like a genius. The experiments and illustrations are mind stretching, and he is doing wonderful work in helping us all grow and realize at least some more of our inherent potential.

So I have been thinking about 'steps'. Where I live there is a massive rebuild after the devastating earthquakes of 5-6 years ago - the tremors continue now. As we live close by a river, the land closest to the river subsided most, and one of the most rewarding rebuild works, open to all, are the new riverside planted areas, lawns and terraces, and steps that lead down to the river. It is very beautiful and we are all so grateful to see the fences, screens, scaffolding and construction gear, all be cleared away. Suddenly it appears so much more open and inter-linked.

The steps are a main feature. They double as sitting areas, a bit like stadium modules and are finished in polished stone and some have LED lights enclosed and even some poetry inscribed. It is a place to celebrate and enjoy for many years to come.

It is the elevation of the steps, their modules, spacing and overlapped organisation that is well designed and very potent as a symbol and practical feature in landscaping and architecture in this river context.

So it is no coincidence I have given these such attention recently and today can expand and elucidate the thinking here.

Steps such as these permit safe travel up and down, and from the lower water level to the city walkways and terraces above, ie linking to more activity and more relationships/ commerce and choices of transport and destination.

These steps sometimes can be wet, slippery and dangerous. There are some colour codes and raised textured surfaces nearby to assist the disabled or blind. Sometimes there is danger and an individual may slip and fall. Sometimes though it is possible to climb rapidly and safely to higher levels.

If you slip and fall, the best solution is to pick yourself up as soon as possible, and start again to achieve your goal, and not wallow in self pity, self reproof, frustration and anger. better to get on with it. Just do it, and succeed. This is the principle of entrepreneurial action. You have to make better choices, but never fear or regret bad choices. They were a necessary motivation, and simply a part of the journey. Move on.

So you see 'steps' are important as real physical material elements, but also metaphors for life experience.
