Horse & Greyhound Racing Forum / Re: Longshots

For any (impatient) onlookers who are starting to think of moving on ponder this:

LONGshots are for the LONG term.

Regardless of the selection method(s)used they never have -- and never will -- result in the same winning frequency as, say, odd-on horses.

Their long odds tell you that !

[Incidentally, as an alternative to flat bets betting-to-prices is a common strategy when following longshots.]

When winners finally arrive you'll likely get a cluster of them...(he said, optimistically!)

Joking apart, that often happens, I've noticed.

I'm just guessing but it could be that they're hoping to collect during in-running.

Or it's something to do with what's loosely called 'fishing for odds'.

Hopefully others more knowledgeable than I will step in with a correct answer!

Muggins, can you see any merit in dropping proposed longshots from your selections that are priced below, say, 8.00?

I ask because your strike rate of 11-12% translates to a price range of 8.30 - 9.00.

I realize that dropping them based on SP is not possible with manual bet'n'forget bets placed in-bulk at the start of the day.

But if you use a bot such as BetbotPRO et alia, you can stipulate your acceptable SP range, of course.

Just a thought for you to ponder...

BetSoftware Discussion / Re: Understanding BetSoftware

"BetSoftware's extended services -on the other hand- are comprised of subscription-based "goodies" offered to BetSelection subscribers as part of their membership."

And those extended services/goodies would largely consist of different 'clip-on' modules offering various selection methods and betting strategies, written by you or written by others.

Yes? No? Or...?

A very good explanation!  (At last...LOL)

And it's a very useful concept that deserves to do well.

Gambling Philosophy / Re: Interesting Article On Grails

Temporary edit: some posts split to:

* The profitable gambler knows when to stop.

* The problem gambler never knows when to stop.

The difference between them is that one has the X-factor; the other doesn't.

And it's more than just self-discipline and/or money management, although they are parts of the X-factor.

There are other parts to the X-factor as well, if you think about it.

But the X-factor is more than the sum of its parts.

And Ms Manton is right - it defies definition. Hence the 'x' bit.

Trying to define it is a bit like trying to pick up mercury with your fingers. You can see it.  You just can't get hold of it.

But you know it's there.

A salutary warning from Muggins about potential outlays before a winner salutes.

After all, they're not called 'longshots' for no reason!

Warning

Knock it off the pair of you.  Stop the personal insults right now and stick to the topic.

[But if you desperately want to trade insults then do it via PM -- just not here.]

An interesting perspective on so-called grails.

Great idea and very generous of you.

My eyes popped out on stalks when I saw the winning prices. If that was just an OK session then the 'good' sessions must be outstanding!

You have a rare and valuable talent.

General Discussion / DNA OF ROULETTE SYSTEM...a grail?
August 30, 2014, 02:07:33 AM
Don Colonne has modified and refined this flat-betting approach over the last 6 years.

It has finally come to fruition.

I have opened this thread for those that would like to discuss the method.

Appraise the method by all means.  Comment on its strong and weak points.

But nobody should step over the line and criticise Mr Colonne himself. [The forum's Rule about no personal attacks is there for a good reason.]

Seeing that Albalaha in his wisdom deleted posts and locked this thread, I've set  up a similar thread -- with the deleted posts restored -- so you can continue this interesting discussion.
