I have been studying this forum for 4 months now and have started playing Baccarat on one of the live online casinos for fun. So far I am doing OK flat betting. How many shoes would you recommend testing before real money play ?

It's all 50-50 mate. The more shoes you test against with whatever you are doing, the closer you will end up at 50-50 minus the commission.
You can test against 10 ~ 20 shoes and get a 60% average strike rate, then the next 20 shoes average 45%, the odd shoe 40% which would be painful to play, then 100, 1000 or 10M shoes and I can tell you your average, it is the exact same as the mathematical possibilities 50%. The only possible way to get head and stay ahead flat betting is via Parlay's and half parlays, two of my friends play that way and it hasn't worked for them.

I recommend testing with play money for about 80 years before going to real money. Believe me when I say it will be worth it.

I tested my style against 2000 shoe before I played for real cake, hey hey.

Not exactly, I didn't agree with Mars Rocks' remark about "..waiting 80 years...". I felt it was inappropriate without the benefit of any real advice.
You should continue to play online for fun until your bet selection becomes a reflex, no mistakes.
With a conservative approach, you should consider practicing until you experience a very strong failure in your preferred bet selection.
With a more assertive approach, you could consider going to a casino with the lowest table limits, and flat betting the minimum with a 20u buy in until you feel more comfortable.

Thank you. I am at the moment saving all my shoes in an excel sheet. I will keep playing for fun until it fails and then evaluate it.

Hello - you can buy roulette extreme for 30 Euro - that way you can simulate even money bets.
Search for UX Software and Roulette.
When i test ideas i use random org.
Is not RNG.
It is True Random Numbers Generated - TRNG - based upon noise.
If you beat them you beat any existing wheel.
Agree with Sputnik about random . org. Their single coin flip feature is good for even money bet practice.
What you can do is make setting of 300 trails and generate 1 & 2.
Then copy the numbers to your note pad.
Now you can put a W for a win and L for a loss.
1 & 2 stand for Banker & Player.
You can also measuring SD or Z-score to see how strong strike ratio you get and how strong your method is.
60% hit ratio tell you nothing or % of hit ratio.

I'd say Go For It ! But forget about online casinos. Its hard to earn rooms and food comps. and that's where your profit is! And stay with flat betting. You will have lots of fun and shouldn't lose very much if you stay with the same bet amount. Over all you should be close to even and earn many comp. points.
It is rare to read about flat betting examples for even money bets - you see members who claim they flat betting and that with empty words as none give example how to ...
So if you want you can compare you method with Magicfive and Flex to see how your method hold up.

Thank you for all your replies. I am still a newbie at this. Sputnik, thank you. For the two systems. I will take a look at them this weekend. I have too much going on at work at the moment, so I don't get to play as much.
Here is one more concepts that might put some light on trending and having a base mode/bet.
For example - assume your base mode is follow the last - then each time you get a single you have to pick a new path to follow.
Strike mode or zig zag mode.
I will not get into complex discussion.
But some times you can get a bias sequense looking like this WLWWWWWWLWWWWLWWLWWWWWLWLWLWLWLWWWLWLWLWLWWWWW Christmas :-)
So you have to see the difference following zig zag or isolated one's ...

I usually to always test a method on 75 to 100 live shoes on paper
then combine the results to an easy to read chart or list of results to be compared
to other methods want to test. Finding the best method is my goal.
