One of the worst, if not the absolute number one detrimental item that will hurt the player, is the amount of time one spends at the table.
This is a tough one, extremely difficult to define a protocol for. However, you better give it serious thought and be conscious of it while you are at the table throughout all of your wagering. Yes it adds a little bit of stress and frustration but you must do it or you will suffer.
Yes, one does win with 'extra time' at the table. But, one will always lose with too much time at the table. Therefore, you must develop a sense of ESP, ahead of what will eventually happen. This is sheer reality. All players winning sessions that they eventually lose their wins and/or their buy-in capital can be 100% attributed to, too much time playing.
Yes, a definitive stop loss will stop the time and protect you from farther losses. But unless we are talking about a large stop or a complete buy-in risk money stop loss, stop losses of a few units or a partial amount will always take away many chances of a winning session. Because most sessions do not start out as sheer wins and you need to calculate in an expected drawdown on your buy-in risk capital, which is elementary once you have experience gambling at the table. Therefore you need an unknown amount of time in order to win the session. And that unknown amount of time can be extremely detrimental to you or it can be your best friend and allow you a gracious and positive win. And the problem is understanding it and facing what can happen during that time period.
Say you had wins with your buy-in risk money, wins add a quick false sense of upcoming larger winning streaks. So be careful and most of all be continually conscious of it. Because situations and presentments change and as well, your understanding of how to wager on what is being presented will also change.
The subconscious attempt(s) to repeat what has won, is a real tough one but you must do it somehow. And no one can accurately tell you how with guaranteed positive results, that can be accomplished.
Be conscious of it. Think. Do not chase some thing that is not there. Follow what is winning with positive progression and small percentages of your win money. When a downswing extends itself and you are still ahead, give serious thought to calling it a session.
Regrouping and staying at your level and plateau is absolute key in my opinion and experience.
