Test to see if freeze-ups are reduced (at least being manageable). Please post and report.

Yes... Long hours of work ahead to get this new layout up to its greatest potential, but taking them with a smile

We'll get there! Thanks!

Nice colour scheme.  Is this on the new server?

So far, whilst typing this reply, there have been no freeze-ups. By now there would have been several.

Still happy to report none so far...  Eeyore had a look in his eye but I stuck his nose in his feedbag before he could speak.

Signing off now and still no freeze-ups. Well, not for me at any rate.

Thanks for reporting Max, we have our eyes placed on moving to a high-availability server rather soon...  (but it's still same server right now  :D)

Great! Even if they are at least bearable it's an improvement.

P.S. the site should prove better on mobile. It's passing google's mobile test now:

Vic,

The typing is a lot easier. Not as many cursor freeze ups so far when typing a reply. I quite like the look of the new layout. More modern and a cleaner look. Good job!

Freezing while typing and page slowness is still present

BUT it's a lot better.

Thanks for reporting. I'm glad things are more bearable.

The ultimate solution of course is to have the web engine coded from scratch (clean slate). Hopefully there is enough sponsorship and hours to make it a reality this year.

Anything else, just "shout". There are missing features to add to this new layout and I'm on it

Cheers!

Just discovered the Recent Posts button didn't actually display any recent posts.

And -- gggrrrr -- it's been freezing whilst typing this message!

Back to being a traditional site.

Hopefully, at least the slow-downs are attenuated with this rather simple layout.

What coding do you mean? The smf forum software is used by hundreds of thousands of forums, many with far more traffic. Its already very fast. Why would you need to re-code anything?

And if you need fast servers, I can host it for free on my servers.

Also im certain the freeze up were something like a javascrpt plugin. Just disable it. that's no reason to completely recode the smf engine.

Hello Steve, the idea is to have a 100% clean slate to implement features we've been collecting throughout the years which simply aren't available on the current web engine.

For instance, there is a project to have a single database of members across sites to give each user  his/her own space with personalized rules, layout/theme, sections, etc.

The goal is to have a web application framework to which we can "plug in" sites to, all sharing the same members, with goodies like a community game server (no real-money gambling, just fake chips), so users can demonstrate their skills in public.

Features would also include moderation beyond what is currently available here. Having per-user lists of friends and foes with different settings for each, with the ability to set per-thread permissions too.

Well, right now it's all in a fuzzy state; only time will tell what actually makes it into the end-product. It's in the very-malleable idea stage right now, but -as you know- big things have small beginnings :)

Actually, we have our eyes set in a high-availability setup, the kind that is being used for email servers and other mission-critical services.

These days they are quite affordable. There are enough gambling enthusiasts around to justify real-time dependable services (i.e. gaming, chat and even streamlined social networking for the niche!).

Well, it's not the SMF engine but a home-grown engine catering to the dynamics of gambling sites. Giving each member a personalized entire sub-forum where he/she can set the rules sure beats granting a simple section.

We''ll see how it goes.

Development pace depends on the level of sponsorship we get throughout the year. There are some money-making projects floating around such as what we recently did: opening our pages to ads from casinos.

(And the year is still young!)

You are a lovely bloke Vic and I like you for what that's worth but.....( you knew there was a but)
You have been busy being busy for years.
I reported freeze ups 18 months ago.
Pretty icons and links to every site in the world and still freeze ups.
The site change looked great and it lasted 2 days

Busy being busy
