Hello! Recently we got a security certificate to enable access via "https://" which seems to have made things buggy with posting to some fellows.

After removing hard-coded references to http:// we're still having some "doo doos" posting-wise as per reports. Let's use this thread to address & debug it.

P.S. in case you didn't catch the announcement, we're moving to an Icelandic operation this very month. It's "full blown" this time, with me quitting my day job to focus on becoming an Internet developer/creator:

https://betselection.cc/general-discussion/what-made-you-spend-so-many-months-on-this-forum-Victor/msg61279/#msg61279

It's a scary step yet exciting at the same time!

The finished product differs from traditional forums in a rather positive way.

Good times for us a community

Sumit, our next wave of sites is simply put: EPIC. All of them aimed at becoming cult sites for the community of users enjoying them.

I'm already in the process of quitting all local IT-related activities (contracts, gigs) to focus on making a living 100% via the Internet.

This is the finest hour in our lives & humanity's.

When I'm focused entirely on a single project, magic happens. I am focused now; literally putting myself at the forefront, risking my livelihood as well as my family's in the most important move of my career.

Patreon page is set with the aim of keeping us community-supported, ad-free & unbiased. Our upcoming sites are mentioned on it:

https://www.patreon.com/vlsnet

We're embracing betting and beyond to study Abundance & exponential technologies, Simulation hypothesis, Life extension & body healing improvement, as well as devoting to creating works for the Public Domain so the whole world benefits from this endeavor.

I'm letting go of local shop so starting right away in March, I'm relying on Patreon support & Internet freelance to feed my family.

There have been several motivators. Glen for starters, giving me the courage to follow my gut.

Nick, Max, Angelo, Paul… Furthermore there have been amazing synchronizations, achieving milestone blessings for my family & unbelievably relevant spot-on messages coming to me when I've been pondering what to do, such as this from Martha Graham:

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open."

I'm keeping it.

[attachimg=1]

This is a month of transition for us! Our new websites are being programmed right now (including BetSelection.is)

These are big times for my family too, I'm making the jump to full-time Internet developer & creator (so every bit counts).

If you'd like to be our Valentine, remember our humble site has a Patreon page at: https://www.patreon.com/vlsnet

Cheers for a GREAT Valentine's day, month & whole year 2018!!

Hello Sumit, this isn't the forum we're getting!

The actual one is being placed online at BetSelection.is (that's an Icelandic domain) late February as let's encrypt activates wildcard sub-domain since that's the very core of our new functionality (giving each member a whole independent sub-forum, where they can set their own rules, theme, buddies, mods... i.e. albalaha.betselection.is, alrelax.betselection.is, etc.)

This forum isn't developed any further, it only came back because it was taking too long and we needed a place for the folks to gather. Once the new site is in place, all of the messages get transferred to the new operation and this forum ends up being just a redirect

Nice to see you back!

Correct. Links are fixed.

Warm welcome to everyone indeed!

Hi guys! :cheer: So happy to see the family reuniting!!

Regarding how long both forums get to co-exist... it's simple: as much as needed

We're getting thread versioning in our new space, so we can deal with merging diverging "continuums" into one again.

Chances are late February gets to be the first pilot run since we get wildcards activated by our certificate provider, which is the core of the new functionality of creating a separate sub-domain on the fly for every user, both when one of his/her posts is removed from a thread as well as when a new topic is created by a member posting for the first time.

This is going to give our forum a nice "gusto" since members won't need to collide in their threads (All the fellows who want to express themselves get to have a sub-forum of their own, with the ability to set their own rules, theme, buddies & ignore list. It's a nice type of community where expression is expanded and basically no censorship is exercised on the posts unless it's rather severe)

...Instead of members having their replies deleted from threads they're automatically given their own sub-forum to expand & elaborate their views further. How cool is that 8)

Thanks for the encouraging words Glen , they are GREATLY appreciated :rose:

Unlike other fellow webmasters around, I can't just go download a forum software with our new feature-set, because it isn't on the market!

I'm that craftsman who has an end-product vision & is at the workshop bringing it to life. Once it's complete, people are going to understand. It's not "Yet another forum"; it's a change in paradigm on how our humble network of sites work. With more inclusion, where even the smallest voice is given a full-out community space to express views at ease while being in control :applause:

A true before & after for us; totally worth both the development effort and the wait

General Discussion / Re: WELCOME BACK, 2018

Welcome back, Glen. The reason is a bit muddy. We started with the aim of making a multi-forum, in the path to it, realized the old database wouldn't cut it... not only the database program but the whole database paradigm as we wanted it to be infinitely extensible with ease; so, changed to object storage, then realized it wouldn't cut it either; changed to graph database, then realized it would be an overkill for some areas while lacking in some others. Now we're multi-model:

Key/value pair for simple insertion & retrieval, document store for large groups of posts/elements with versioning & graph database model for relationship-oriented functionality (i.e. recommendations). All while being schema-less so we don't have to rebuild with every major update :) New forum is being programmed right & good for decades to come!

So. We're sticking to multi-model for the long run as it's the best of... three worlds. We can build & expand infinitely upon it.

As to why we're coming back as two separate boards (old + new in development at the same time) it's due to the very core of our new functionality: when a message is deleted at the new engine it doesn't get removed but a whole new sub-forum is created on the fly for the member to express him/herself in full while keeping the old message's thread intact. We need wildcard certificate functionality (*.betweb.cc) which was announced for January by our letsencrypt certificate provider but then delayed to late February, so what the heck; even if it creates diverging forums for some time, here we are! At least we open first month to enter the year 2018 officially :)

Thanks for being around!

Welcome back guys!! :cheer:  After much pondering chose to keep the old forum here for some time. This creates a new "continuum" for our board but we can deal with it :D

We're still about one month shy of the new upgrade the way it's meant to be. We're aiming at getting it synchronized with letsencrypt's wildcard certificates since we make use of them by giving each user a forum @ the new web.

BetSelection continues to live!

Are we still going to see the whole section as it is now?  Or will the person have to 'know' where to go, with the new board?

Just curious??

All active sections are indexed so visitors don't need to memorize much.

Any case, direct-access format is rather simple: user.betweb.cc

Each board/blog mod should have the 24/7/365 ability to modify and remove anything and everything within his own Blog, they way it used to be, I understand on the main forums, but not the Blog end of it.

That's the idea.

We get "thread versioning" on the new engine, which means edits are effectively unlimited again.

Also, I'm developing a "time machine" feature for threads to be seen as they were at a particular moment in time so people can't say "I never posted that" :D this solves the main concern for both the folks who want topics to be immutable to guarantee no comment is ever lost & those who want to make edits for any personal reason, be it today or 10 years from now.

If the reader does not approve, like, enjoy the author he has no business going on his Blog in the first place anyways.

Agreed.

We're splitting the board & giving every member a whole personal space to call their own to avoid personal conflicts. Users are certain to group according to their personalities & the sort of conversation they like.

Buddy & Ignore lists get to ensure disruptive members don't interrupt spaces where they aren't welcome.

They can post their views under their own space. Everybody gets their own BetWeb.cc space automatically on post (i.e. no need to request it).

This is an elegant solution versus trying to getting us all smiling with the same homogeneous ways  O:-)

Okay so in layman terms please.

Do we still go to:  WWW.Betselection.CC for the forum as we do now??

Correct.

Main forum stays @ BetSelection.cc

Where will my Blog/Alrelx's space and Book Reviews be?  In the same set-up as now or elsewhere?

Members get their personal web space in the format: user.betweb.cc

In your case, this is alrelax.betweb.cc

As the name implies, it's an entire website of your own(!) While we do share the same user-base among all sites, we won't mess with personal spaces for the most part.

Quote from: alrelax on November 16, 2017, 10:18:30 PMIf we go tot he forum do we still see the 'rooms' with my space, Gizmo's and the other ones--as we do now, or each one will be contained under a special log in, as you said and as I understand, Alrelaxs.betweb.cc, etc.????

Users are shared among all sites / personal webs, so it's the same login/password across all of our webs.

BetSelection.cc comes back without "rooms". We return as a very focused "gambling study" board. i.e. truly honoring our "bet selection" motto.

Quote from: alrelax on November 16, 2017, 10:18:30 PMI answer Gizmo's response to my Expectations & Reality thread this morning, I will save the rest I had to post when you come back up.

As long as you see the site up, feel free to publish it. Every post gets included in the backup.

(Do write it in a word processor to have it off-forum. I know we do the move today, but the actual hour depends on how my day goes around here)

It's a good time to respond to threads & send PM's.

We're making the final backup of the board prior to reinstalling the server & having the last day for this web engine today.

Expect some days prior to things being reasonably usable again. Our new web engine is being developed "in vivo" (i.e. features are added in real time).

We return with three sites:

- BetWeb.cc - Personal spaces.
- BetSoftware.cc - Our software.
- BetSelection.cc - Forum reboot.

Save those direct links somewhere! :)
