General Discussion / Re: EDIT Feature--Vic!
March 11, 2017, 06:35:00 PM
Thanks for the feedback. The large context being we're in the middle of "piggybacking" several sites to our database for the very first time in our existence.

The most immediate new web space connecting to us being TheMissingPiece.site, then the new multi-forum (a forum per each member) so really *really* don't want to rock the boat post-wise.

We're also moving our normal operation from post editing to post versioning.

This has a big impact since each version of the post is a separate unit in the database, thus allowing very cool features such as retrieving exact snapshots of how a thread was at a certain time and date, which is impossible with our current setup.

Your feedback is noted and the following actions are to be put in place:

- Blog owners are getting moderation back within their section.

as well as,

- Complimentary of one (1) hours before locking the post.

Next Wednesday + Thursday are set to complete the post versioning code, starting at the new site.

As post versioning is finished, the regular unlimited editing we are used to returns, with the addendum of leaving a log so fellow members can enjoy a "way-back machine" of threads. A big plus that is worth these temporary inconvenience

Cheers & many thanks for the comprehension :rose:

This is one of those core features that changes our ways to interact with each other for the better.

Hello Andy, we are transitioning to a new web engine right now, from the server back-end to the outside. We have solved users removing content via "post versioning" on the new web engine, but it isn't available here yet hence the temporary lock-down.

This is likely going to be a week of changes for us around as both the old and new engine are co-existing.

Once things settle programming-wise, post editing versioning is coming back.

A nice democratic decision.

We're the forum eyes now. All of us

Why the shake up ?

Well, there's nothing personal in the decision and in fact this isn't a rushed decision. We've been moving towards the community moderation model for years now. It is only now I'm having the time to program the web engine we need to make this a reality. Also, as we're moving to being a network of sites including services and products, the fair thing is for me to be the staff in charge of website administration. As we all step down to being watchers of the forum, it becomes more efficient too. People don't need to wait for a global moderator to take action. Everybody who sees something that doesn't belong here can initiate the moderating action by means of his/her report.

New moderating features are being rolled-in little by little. We still have to implement a system giving more weight to seasoned members. Community moderation is the true definition of 100% opt-in support. Everybody's in to make a small part that doesn't represent an individual burden, merely reporting when stumbling onto something in a natural fashion, while making spammers and wrong-doers be hesitant to target us as we actually have a thousand eyes watching :)

...We're implementing a form of Linus Law: "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow", this is, we're switching from the 'Cathedral pyramid of command' to the more flat/level 'Bazaar' model.

Thanks VO, our full community has a higher count of  :o eyes :o reading at any given time than we (staff) had; that's basically why this move to community moderation makes sense.

Our forum rules are spelled-out quite clearly. If you see a post that doesn't resonate with our rules, then it's simply a matter of sending a signal by reporting it to initiate the process of taking action. Everybody is part of our moderating team now. Each and every one of us became our forum's eyes at once & all reports are acted upon.

...Also, we now have a moderation log for the public viewing, handling and contesting of reports with full transparency in our new community moderation model.

General Discussion / Global Moderators have been relieved
February 15, 2017, 10:45:01 AM
Global Moderators have been relieved from their duties.

...I mentioned this already at the mods lounge yet let me state it again: big thanks to you guys. It has been a pleasure working with you. Thanks for your generous & selfless services. It is deeply appreciated  :applause:

@all

Please notice everybody remains in charge of his/her own thread & section/blog moderators remain in place as usual.

...And of course, there's YOU. This is a move towards a community-driven moderation model so please be the forum's  :o eyes :o from now on and report the wrongful messages you see by using the button at the lower-right corner of every post.

We count on you.

Rest assured every one of your reports is being acted upon and published in our moderation log for full transparency.

Improvements are being rolled-in (incl. moderating ones) as the new web engine gets in place during the month for BetSelection.cc and our other new sites.

Thanks a lot for being around!

Quote from: greenguy on February 10, 2017, 08:03:26 AMThat sounds interesting and innovative. I look forward to seeing this in operation.
Detection of blatant spam can be automated easily since spammers have a one-track mind: "post the link, post the link"; and so they do for our bot to catch :D

The new "Peacemaker" group is going to be given to active members who flag posts accurately during the last 7 days, so everybody can choose to wear the badge if they care for our community and hit the report button.

We respect everyone's belief. No need to apologize for your beliefs around here @ BetSelection

Cheers.

Hello GG, our moderators have been advised since some time now we're going to switch to a community moderation system + a moderation bot when the new site gets up online.

Any personal issue with a moderator isn't worth pursuing right now as we are only days away from me being the only active member of the staff & relying on the community as a whole to cover the moderation part

My advise is not to worry about pointing at anybody's virtues or faults. People is smart enough to make-up their own mind about others. Like I just mentioned to a friend: every individual has his/her own ledger. It isn't our business to add or remove from it.

So, maybe I am totally missing something????  Should I make all my private phone calls, emails and maybe even conversations in person available to whomever.  Like maybe I should make transcripts and recordings of each and post them so I don't commit the sin of , 'talk behind anyone's back one-on-one'????

One on one is fine; it's no sin to talk directly to another member online. That's for sure :D

Vic, this is very cool. You can talk behind anyone's back one on one. So who can see these chat's?

You got it right: It's a direct one-on-one chat hence no other connected people sees the msgs.

i.e. different from a traditional one-to-many chat room. One to many interaction is what the regular forum is for  :D
